Both sides started this clash with tough defending and some fast running , both sides had attacking opportunities in the first few minutes but the scores were dead locked after 5 minutes , when a Rochdale attack saw the opening try with Swarms Dave Tyson crossing the line through a gap in the Leigh defence , scoring quite close to the sticks made the conversion more or less nailed on as Scott Manock added the extras .

From the re-start , Leigh's defence held strong and kept Swarm at bay , on Leighs next set of six some good handling and fast footwork saw John Dickinson go under the sticks to open Leigh's account , Gareth Burrows adding the extra's to make the scores 6-6. From the re-start Leigh ran the ball in well and seemed to be making more ground , swarm did well to keep Leigh out on this occasion. Leigh's defence held tight for the next set of six before a wide pass found Stuart Colbert who showed the Swarm players a clean set of heels as he ran in The Leythers 2nd try of the game. Once again Gareth Burrows added the conversion.

Leigh started the stronger of the 2 teams in the 2nd quarter with 3 more unanswered try's from Paul Wilcock 2 , and Andrew Lally with Gareth Burrows kicking 2 conversions from the 3 try's. Making the score after 30 mins Leigh 28 Rochdale 6 . The 3rd quarter saw Rochdale go close to scoring on a number of occasions as they tried to get themselves back in the game , but Leigh scored again after 40 mins when Jon Hindley broke through the Rochdale defence to score with Gareth Burrows converting the kick. Swarms patience paid off when Craig Nagy ran in to score out wide , this time the conversion was unlucky from Scott Manock .
